Living Heart Project – Crowdsourcing the Virtual Twin of the Human Heart
This talk is about creating a personalizable, digital twin of the human heart. Researchers can now reconstruct patient experiences to understand disease, design better, and test new treatments.
Creating a digital human heart in 3D and virtual reality takes the cooperation of many different disciplines, including software development, cardiology, design, and art. The project began as a research project with scientists at Berkeley, Stanford, and Dassault Systems.
used at leading hospitals such as Boston Children’s Hospital to perform complex surgeries on virtual patients to optimize them before the real surgery.
The Living Heart model is even under evaluation by the FDA to determine if it is possible to use it as a surrogate for real patients in a regulatory review.
